Dark Romance

Elia Acheri

I write the stories I could never find on the shelves.

How it all started

There was a book, one evening. One of those romance novels where everything was beautiful, clean, predictable. I put it down at page 80. Not because it was bad — but because it wasn't real. The love I knew, the love I saw around me, didn't look like that. It had edges. Silences that stretched on too long. Hands that shook before they touched for the first time.

I started writing that night. Not to publish. To make sense of it. To give a voice to the characters that didn't exist anywhere — the ones who wear their wounds like tattoos, visible, permanent, and somehow still beautiful. The ones who fall in love not in spite of their damage, but through it.

Why dark romance

People ask me this all the time. Why write dark stories? Why the violence, the manipulation, the obsession? Honestly, the answer is pretty simple: because light only matters when you know what the dark looks like. Dark romance doesn't glorify toxicity. It shines a light on it. It asks the questions that mainstream romance is too polite to bring up.

I'm a psychology nerd at heart — I'm drawn to what's happening beneath the surface. The way trust rebuilds after it's been shattered. The kind of courage it takes to love when everything you've learned says love hurts. My characters aren't heroes. They're survivors. And that's exactly why my readers see themselves in them.

The Hearts That Heal series

Every book takes place in the coastal world of Rivière-Azur — a fictional town in the south of France where the cliffs fall into the sea and the secrets run as deep as the currents. Each novel stands on its own, but the characters cross paths, lean on each other, and break together.

From Book 1 — Stolen Heartbeats, a story about rebuilding after domestic violence — to Book 2 — The Flames You Ignited, a safe house romance between an ex-convict and a jazz singer on the run — the series explores what it means to trust when every instinct tells you to run. Available in 9 languages on Amazon.

What I believe in

I don't believe in easy happy endings. I believe in scars that eventually stop hurting.

In characters who fall, get back up, fall again — and finally choose to keep standing, not because it's easy, but because someone showed them it was worth it. My books come with trigger warnings because I respect my readers. But they also come with hope, tucked into the final pages, right where you've stopped looking for it.

Beyond the pages

  • I write at night. The best scenes happen between midnight and 3 a.m., when the world finally shuts up.
  • My writing playlist is a chaotic mix of Billie Eilish, Chopin, and 1950s jazz.
  • I read about 4 novels a week — mostly dark romance, psychological thrillers, and Japanese literature.
  • Every character starts with a trauma. That's the first thing I write. Everything else follows from there.
  • I publish in 9 languages because dark stories don't have borders.
